New interview from Portugal about the new CD

Here is a new interview in Portuguese about the new Scorpions CD, Humanity Hour 1.
Some highlights in English:

Desmond Child arranged personal trainers for the band doing physical exercises during the recordings - Desmond Child arranged a professor for Klaus Meine to have singing lessons - A famous Holywood Director that was at the time in the Studio said that Klaus doesn't need singing lessons, but Klaus already said during the interview that it was really important for him after all this years to have such a great experience himself and still learn from it (something like this), because he never had singing lessons - Billy Corgan played "Ping-Pong" with the band during the recording sessions, because Smashing Pumpkins already were recording at the same studio but in other room. They were always with Smashing Pumpkins at the studio, so because of this, the band decided to invite Billy Corgan to sing with Klaus - The Scorpions wants to came back to PORTUGAL, because they'll never forget the ACOUSTICA CD/DVD made in PORTUGAL, LISBON lands and the success they achieved with that album.

Maybe the Scorps Don't Need a US Label

Here is an interesting article from CBS News about a big band not having a record label and releasing a CD on their own. Maybe the Scorpions don't need a record deal in the states.

According to a posting at ScorpsNews.com, SCORPIONS guitarist Rudolf Schenker revealed in the latest issue of the French magazine Rock Hard that SMASHING PUMPKINS frontman Billy Corgan makes an appearance on vocals in the new SCORPIONS song "The Cross", which is included on the band's new CD, "Humanity - Hour 1", due in Germany on May 25.

General News

From an interview of Rudolf Schenker in the last issue of the French magazine Rock Hard:

• Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) is singing on The Cross.
• The Waken 2006 DVD is in the editing process right now, and may be released in autumn.
• The Scorps asked Michael and Uli to play on Humanity - Hour 1. Unfortunately Michael was in Japan at the time and Uli was not available neither. Rudolf hopes they will play on the next album.
• After Humanity - Hour 1, Humanity - Hour 2 could be a possible sequel to that album.

Rare Scorpions Songs

I'm always trying to find out more and more information about rare Scorpions songs. One of my tricks is to look in the ASCAP and BMI databases for songs written by Klaus, Rudolf, and Matthias. I've discovered some super rare songs that no one has ever heard of before now.

Also, ASCAP gives Rudolf with writing credit on the following three UFO tracks: Bella Donna, Crystal Light, and High Flyer. I'm not sure if that is a mistake or not. I couldn't find any confirmation of this elsewhere. One person mentioned that Crystal Light was ripped off from Fly To The Rainbow.

Here are some songs Klaus has written with Peter Wolf among others:

As for rare Scorpions songs, I have found these songs:

• Bite of a Snake
• Dragonfly
  
• Freejack
• Magic
• Pretty at Nite
• Rock My Car
• Same Old Song
• Strangers in Paradise
• Sweet American Girls
• Time Has Changed Like the Wind

I feel like most of these are left over songs from album writing sessions. Dragonfly seems like a song maybe used on a TV show as background music. I bet Freejack was written for the movie Freejack, but it wasn't used for some reason and Hit Between The Eyes was used instead. I've heard a bootleg of Rock My Car from Sweden from the 1980s, but other than that I know nothing about it. I also know that Pretty at Nite is a demo from LAFS. Enjoy!

It’s really difficult to make an interview of your idol, especially when this man is Klaus Meine, the man who, along with Rudolf Schenker, wrote the most beautiful songs on Earth, sold more than 60 millions of records, and who is considered (with Dio) as THE voice of hard rock. It’s even more difficult when you have only 30 minutes to tell him how much his music helps you in your everyday life while at the same time asking him questions about the new Scorpions records, Humanity – Hour 1. But here it is, and even if I did not manage to avoid some preconceived answers from Klaus, I think this interview gives a good overview of the Scorpions in 2007 : a band which is stronger than ever!

One of the first tihngs Desmond said to us was, how about doing a conept album? So, here we have, 'Humanity Hour 1' and although it is a very loose concept, the songs are all about humanity itself and the Humanity thing was Desmond's idea.

I think my absolute favourite is the title track 'Humanity'.
